The Para-Karate competition took the 2023 World Senior Championships in Budapest (Hungary) by storm with an inspiring display of the many values of the sport. The best Para-Karate athletes in the world were crowned in Budapest in a memorable tournament.

Just as it has occurred since 2014, the Para-Karate Championships are included in the official calendar of the World Senior Championships as one more discipline. In its fifth edition, the Para-Karate World Championships crowned the heroes of the sport in the modality of Karate for people with disabilities while giving a memorable showcase of the power of will.

No less than eight categories were celebrated in Budapest. In Wheelchair User Male K30, Abdelaziz Abouelnaga of Egypt won his second consecutive world title after beating Valerio Di Coco of Italy in the final (scores of 45.1 to 43.5).

Also confirming her dominance in the category, Isabel Fernandez of Spain took her third world crown in Wheelchair User Female K30 after defeating Knarik Airapetian of Ukraine with an impressive demonstration of Karate abilities.

The title in Blind/Visually Impaired Female K10 went to Emiliya Mitlinova of Azerbaijan, who beat Veronika Kamenska of the Czech Republic 40.3 to 39.9, while the crown in the Male K10 division was taken by Toshihiro Imai of Japan who upset defending titleholder and teammate Yasushi Oba (42.2 to 40.6)

Hosts of Hungary celebrated the triumph of local Para-Karate star Olivia Kakosy in Intellectually Impaired Female K21. The gold medallist in Dubai 2021 repeated the title following a convincing victory over Spain’s Lucia Sanchez (41.4 to 40.5).

The all-Egypt final of Intellectually Impaired Female K22 was taken by Salma Alaaeldin Ebrahim who defeated teammate Nadin Youssef 40.2 to 38.1.

The male divisions of Intellectually Impaired had Spain’s Carlos Huertas winning the crown in K21 after beating Germany’s Albert Singer 41.4 to 39.5, as Ahmed Elbeltagy of Egypt won the title in K22 following a victory by 38.8 to 36.7 over Italy’s Mattia Allesina.

2023 WORLD SENIOR PARA-KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
